New Directions
Hard to watch one of my flawed heroes continue to slide. Jan Ullrich came in second three times to Lance and 3 times to earlier winners and won once. Generally the gaps between first and second are a minute or two.
A little harder work in the off season, a change to pedalling style and he could have been one of the greats. But a habit of offseason partying had escalated to a difficult marriage and worse divorce and now this. Hope he gets the help he needs to turn his life around. [edit: Jan went into rehab and Lance went to help him and is bringing him to a center in Aspen]

One on my favorite cyclists and often called the best loved guy in the peleton, George Hincapie, on racing in Europe back in the day as a 19 year old, what a domestique really does besides get bottles of water from the team car, US Postal team, doping, proud moments, racing post doping and growing young riders. https://youtu.be/MpePw5nLzEw
Well yesterday, I was starting to believe in the doom and gloom in the PET scan report. Groggy, knot in my stomach, difficulty putting the right words in sentences, sluggish. After a few hours, doubled the dose of the water pills, per the bottle instructions. Within 3 hours, I was pounding down dinner and clear as a bell. Phew.
Two things that will change your mind about how Lance won 7 Tours de France.

Jan Ullrich had him beat, but decided to reconnoiter the course on tv in his hotel room. Lance rode it. Fast forward to ~7:00.

From my cousin Tom:
In a back room of the Onderdonk House is the Ridgewood Historical Society's Genealogy Library. The man who set it up was George P Miller and he died in March 2018 at the age of 76. He must have been an incredibly dedicated and OCD type of person. There is an enormous card catalog (two cabinets) of neatly hand-written index cards arranged by surname of every reference to a Ridgewood resident he found in books and newspapers. There were about 15 Heeg ca...rds of which I got photocopies. I wish I could have stayed in there longer to search our other surnames but access to the library usually has to be reserved ahead of time- they were nice enough to let me in there for the Heeg cards and to use their copy machine so I didn't want to wear out their generosity. He (George Miller) also created volumes of hand written directory arranged by street of every residence and business in Ridgewood. The Heeg dairy was not listed at Bleecker/Butler and Forest Ave, but Emma Heeg was listed as a dress maker at the corner. There was a large fireworks factory at that location, so the dairy must have been nearby on another street. I could have sat there for hours turning the pages of the directories he wrote. Found Chris Bischoff's saloon listed on Bleecker, south of Forest. None if it is indexed or digitized so the only way to look at his collection is to go there. The guide told me that they are looking to get it online through the German Genealogy group. It looks like they are overwhelmed since George Miller passed, since it was his library and he organized it but didn't leave any instructions or information about the entirety of his work... just the indexes and catalogs themselves.
So not convinced that taking Keytruda as my next treatment step is the way to go. For it to work the PD-1 gene has to be positive. I don't believe Dr V checked. So I ordered my full medical record, expecting a CD. When I called back, they said they dont do CDs and will ship a box of paper. So much for electronic records. Going to make searching for this tidbit is going to be fun. So glad I went on disability to convalesce. This is more work and stress than a job.
From Patti Porter Berlinquette I’ve been watching Chris Cured Cancer. Ten different modules over ten days. His cure is nutrition based. I opted out of a daily pill as a preventive due to the many chemo like side effects. I’m going to try to improve my eating habits.
Slowly recovering from side effects. No further need for wound care, making showering a much more routine process. Got red blood cell count up fro 7.2 to 8.6 mostly from BBQd tri-tip therapy. Getting nerve block surgery on Monday for hip pain. Got PT for knee pain so that's just repetition till that gets better.
Monument placed by the Canadian city of Abbotford, BC and dedicated by my cousin FDNY Battalion Chief Brian O'Flaherty who barely escaped the collapse of both towers on 9/11. Brian planted the tree nearby.

Seen this 100 times. Aretha's nd James Brown's segments are among the best.
The Blues Brothers
In a land of giants Aretha Franklin stood as one of the tallest.
She had the soul of a lion, the strength of a warrior and the voice of unparalleled power and ...conviction.
THINK was a show stopper that demonstrated her power as a performer.
She also gave us an anthem for RESPECT and forever earned a place in our hearts.

Finally rounded up the troops to take our oldest car, 2010 Fusion to Carmax. Runs good, just don't need an extra car to register and insure and put a bunch of money into to fix.
