Two down, Two to Go Updated January 5, 2018 11:00 am
December 30, 2017 Back to In the Beginning
Woke up pain free and alert, (only thing important in this paragraph), but got groggier as the day wore on. Post treatment chemo brain. Got to the point where I was practically incoherent and couldn't remember the names for things. Still managed to help with the first half of disconnecting their kitchen faucet with one that matches their drawer pulls. Rabbi did more than my share, as I had really gone out in left field. Coffee just made it mad.
Plus he replaced the middle rod on the dining room curtains we put up the other day. I held the rods while he did the work. Somehow I drove us home. Had to turn up Creedence on YouTube to stay awake. Played a movie on YouTube and slept through it. Woke up pain free and alert, at the end and put on "Bad Santa." Kind of a training video.
Two more chemos to go out through the end of January. Took a shower today and no loss of hair yet, but Dr V said it would start soon.
Will be doing the usual tomorrow, Einstein's Bagels and Costco.
December 31, 2017
Still slightly hazy. Minor leg pain..more like weakness. Off to Costco. Took the tree down. Noticed tingling numbness in the tips of my little and ring fingers. RSO just gets you stoned; didn't do anything for leg pain. It must be made with an Indica strain. Very relaxing whole body experience. Very boring high. Leg still weak. Slept through New Years.
January 1, 2018
Numbness spread to most of left hand, less so on the right hand. Even right foot toes are a bit numb. Just noticed that when I put away the tree and ornaments, I forgot to take down the stockings and mantle decorations.
Finding it hard not to follow Newton's First Law to the letter: "A body at rest tends to stay at rest." That's me right now.
Phew! Have to watch for booby traps. Finished vacuuming the kitchen and most of the family room when Mikki asked me to take a break while she concentrated on a business email she was composing. I did, but when I turned my foot got caught in the power cord and down I went. Landed on all fours and crawled over to the end table to hoist myself up. Right leg has really not much strength.
It took until 5:30 for me to realize why I was recruiting every muscle just to walk. I looked like a zombie Joe Cocker.

I realized that I hadn't any Tylenol for the last 2 days.
The humidity here is about 15%. I think that's putting it high. I'm using Burt's Bees and that seems to be better than Chapstick. Hands feel like leather, but it's hard to tell with the numbness. Prior to this the Vaseline Intensive Care Essential Healing seemed to last for a couple days. Now I feel like my hands need a good greasing every hour.
January 2, 2018
Pain mostly gone and less weakness in the leg than yesterday. I think I'll still skip jumping jacks for a bit. I have to be careful with these numb hands. Noticed a cut on my thumb, likely a paper cut, but have no idea when it happened. Also have to mind my grip. Stuff just falls out of my hand because I can't sense whether I'm gripping something tightly enough. Maybe I should practice on someone:
One of my friends has a connection to a guy who makes his own cannabinoid based magic potion. Supposedly no THC and he said it does wonders for pain. We'll see. Shades of Curtis Springer.
January 4, 2018
Mikki tried the above potion on her neck and said it took the edge off the pain she was having.
Most of my pain is gone. What is there seems to be where the pelvis is connected to the adductor muscle as side movements of my leg are troublesome. Noticed as I was brushing my teeth this morning and noticed hair in the sink. Wasn't sure where it was coming from until I ran my hand over my head. Might have a shiny dome by next week.

Today is my father's 101st birthday and coincidently the day of his death. In one respect, I'm glad he passed over a year before 9/11/2001. Being a former FDNY engineer, I'm sure it would have been hard for him. I think about how much better his odds of survival would have been had he gotten prostate cancer in this day and age. But like all the Heegs, he was well reconciled with his life when it was time to go, and was so proud of the legacy he left in his grandchildren.
